Market sales surge year-over-year
The Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA) has just released its April 2025 sales report, showing a total of 29,585 vehicles sold. While this figure reflects a slight 7% decrease compared to the previous month, it represents a strong 21% increase year-over-year. This positive trend signals a recovering market with promising prospects for Q2 and Q3 of this year.
However, this figure excludes sales from major automakers VinFast and Hyundai, both of which have yet to release their data for the reporting period. Additionally, several imported brands—such as Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Nissan, and Subaru—have not disclosed their performance, making the overall industry figures still incomplete.

Passenger cars and imported vehicles dominate
In April, passenger vehicles led the market with 20,766 units sold, followed by commercial vehicles (8,619 units) and special-purpose vehicles (200 units), reflecting an 11% increase compared to the previous month.
Domestically assembled vehicles accounted for 13,890 units, while completely built-up (CBU) imports reached 15,695 units, both showing a 7% decline month-over-month.
This indicates intense competition between local assembly and imported vehicles, while also highlighting increasingly segmented consumer demand across different customer groups.
Top-performing models and brands
Toyota maintained its market leadership with total sales of 5,566 units, followed by Ford (3,997 units), THACO Mazda (2,736 units), Kia (2,055 units), and Mitsubishi (2,038 units).
Among the best-selling models, the Ford Ranger topped the chart with 4,164 units, trailed by the Mitsubishi Xpander (4,013 units), Toyota Vios (3,058 units), Ford Everest (1,090 units), and Toyota Yaris Cross (1,030 units).
